Is It Safe To Go For Surgery For Cyst On Coccyx?

My granddaughter (age 20) has an abcess or cyst on her tailbone (coccyx). The abcess is recurring about once a year since about age 9. A surgeon has recommended a type of surgery that looks like a `z` across the tailbone, but I am not sure if we should do it. I would appreciate some advice
