Is It Safe To Have Knee Fusion After Undergoing Total Knee Replacement?
I AM A 54 YO FEMALE, I HAD A LAPBAND PLACED IN 2009 WHICH HAD TO BE REMOVED AFTER 21 DAYS DUE TO COMPLICATIONS. I WAS TOLD I WAS ALLERGIC TO FOREIGN OBJECTS IN MY BODY. IN 2014 I HAD A R TKR I AM 6 MONTHS POST OP AND HAVE A GREAT AMOUNT OF EFFUSION. THE DOCTOR IS STUMPED. I HAVE HAD ALLERGY TESTING AND NICKLE (WHICH IS IN THE COMPONENTS) CAUSES IRRITATION BUT NO ALLERGY. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO HAVE A KNEE FUSION. DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? IS THERE ANY WAY TO DETERMINE IF I HAVE OTHER OPTIONS?
It is highly recommended for conditions that have caused a considerable amount of irreversible damage to the knee joint to preserve as much function as possible. It will help but you need physiotherapy and rehabilitation after that! In good hands, it is right.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
