Is It Safe To Have Multiple Pap Smears Within A Short Period Of Time?
Is it safe or healthy to have multiple pap smears within a short amount of time? All paps were given by the same obgyn, the first has an abnormal cell production, however negative for all tests; second pap was labeled incorrectly by the same office, and was required yet a third pap in the matter of 5 weks. ranging from (first) sept 18 , to current date oct 29. I was 7 weeks 3 days at date of first test, when I discovered I was pregnant. Today I am 13 weeks 3 days. Im concerned that I may need to change my obgyn. (not sure if related, considered high risk due to heart arrhythmia). Thank you for any advice, Kirstie
Thank you for the Question Brief..pap smear does not cause arrythmia Detail..As pap smear is an important screening test to rule out any abnormal cells causing cervical carcinoma.(which is increasing in females nowadays),and if it is diagnosed in first stage ,can be treated and irradicated. So if the first result was abnormal ,then you should also consult Oncologist and discuss further about abnormal cell test and what other steps to be taken for further evaluation of abnormal cells instead doing repeated pap smear. Hopefully my answer is helpfull for you. Dr.Maheshwari
