Is It Safe To Have Surgery For Ruptured Disc At 50 Years Of Age?

HI I have Ruptured disc at c5/c6 impinging the the c6 Nerve root. Caused by a Chiropractor doing bilateral rotation. ONe of the option that has been suggested is disc surgery and disc replacement. It has been 4 years since injury and a lot of pain and medications. Several top neurosurgeons in Australia are reluctant to undertake the surgery on me as I am 50 years of age have mild bone degeneration around the surrounding joints and they doubt after such time it would be successful. I have case before the supreme court underway but the cost of surgery including full recovery treatment seems to be very vague. figures ranging from $30,000 to $80,000 depending surgeon. Do have any advice for the type of costs. We are currently trialling liquid ozone injection therapy in the deep tissue and facia around the joints and muscles in the shoulder region, along with regular Endone. The liquid ozone is providing some releif. but it only last maybe 3 months

Hello,

Your bones might have been osteoporotic or very less density and that might be the reason why neurosurgeons are denying surgery. Here, in our setup, we do surgery even if there is a small percentage of chance of recovery. Liquid ozone helps but temporary. You can talk to the neurosurgeon and convince them and also tell them that you agree to risks of surgery. You can have pain free life after surgery at least for 15- 20 years.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
