Is It Safe To Rinse Mouth With Dettol?

Hello, I have been gargling with Dettol, just a few drops every night in a glass of wArm water, after I clean my teeth, for about 50 years, or more since I was a child as my Father recommended it. I do have beautiful teeth and am rarely sick, but my niece said it could be dangerous and lethal, and stop doing it, which I have.
I do miss it at night and feel my teeth and mouth are not cleaned properly, could you please giv me your thoughts on this. Thank you very much, Sandy Cameron.

Hi..
Can understand your concern.

As per your query dettol when only used as gargle does not produce any specific side effects and not swallowed but can cause mucosal irritation due to one of its ingrediant chloroxylenol..

It can cause allergic reaction to some individuals but doesn't seems relevant in your case.

But as it is an external use product if swallowed in large quantity it can cause poisoning..

I would suggest you that there are numerous mouth washes and gargles available like betadine mouthwash, listerine, clohex, colgate plax etc that have excellent flavors as well as antimicrobial properties and you can use any one of them..

Hope your query is solved.

Thanks and regards..
