Is It Safe To Smoke Marijuana During Pregnancy?

Hello, a dear friend of mine has been diagnosed with Placenta Previa. She smokes Marijuana, multiple times, daily. She was an alcoholic prior to her pregnancy. (I use the term prior lightly) I just wanted to know, REALISTICALLY...will her Smoking affect her during her pregnancy or are the mortality rates still about the same? To clarify, I believe she stated that it was complete previa. I am concerned for her health and I would hate to do this...but if I need to report to her OB that she continues to use, in order to protect the child, I will..

Hello,

No, it is not safe to smoke marijuana during pregnancy. Exposure to THC may affect the baby's brain development. THC is a neurotoxin. Trouble with memory, controlling impulses, school performance, attention problems are commonly seen in children whose mothers used weed during pregnancy.

Since she is pregnant with complete placenta previa, she should stay on bed rest, avoid sexual intercourse and exercises. Even if there is no bleeding she should stay on bed rest. Take home made balanced diet. She needs to be very careful.
