Is It Safe To Stop Birth Control Pills Abruptly?

I am on the pill but have been randomly bleeding for the past three weeks. I had unprotected sex a couple days ago and he came inside me. My gyno told me to stop taking the pill for 7 days and restart from where I left off to get my body back in cycle to stop bleeding. Is it dangerous to stop the pill right now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you can take emergency contraception pills if last intercourse was within last 72 hours and for reassurance ultrasound pelvis, as well as UPT may be sought.

Meanwhile resume the routine contraception pills as advised by your gynecologist as hormonal variation during cycles and pills adjustment accordingly is very important to achieve the therapeutic effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
