Is It Safe To Take Althea Pills For Longer Period Of Time?

Hi, I have been taking Althea birth control pill for a year and 3 months now due to PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome as prescribed by my doctor. How long can I take this? Is it still safe for me to take this for over a year primarily for my PCOS? Thanks!
