Is It Safe To Take Betnesol Injection During Pregnancy?
Hi! Please suggest... My wife is pregnant and today is 35 week as per LMP. But adviced to take 12 ml. Betnesol Injection i.e. 6 ml. today and rest 6 ml. after 24 hrs. What for this? Is there any chance to do C-section at earliest? Doctor reported that due to high BP the same was prescribed. As BP was 160/100 today. Please suggest and help me out.
Yes, it is safe to take betnesol injection during pregnancy. Betnesol injection contains a steroid (betamethasone) is generally given during pregnancy to facilitate the maturity of fetal lungs.
It stimulates the production of surfactant (a protein substance produced by lung cells to facilitate breathing) in the baby’s lungs and thus reduces the risk of lung problems for babies who are born early, particularly for those born between 29 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.
It also prevents colitis and brain hemorrhage in the neonates. There is nothing to worry about it.
Depending upon the progress the doctors will decide whether it is going to be C-section or normal delivery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
