Is It Safe To Take Celebrex For Severe Depression?
I have had severe depression most of my adult life, with three suicide attempts prior to age 53. I have been hospitalized twice and outpatient therapy twice. I have been lots of drugs. Right now Celebrex (generic form) 120 mg daily. I sleep well, and work 24 hours per week. I at times will experience severe sleep times, and virtually have very little energy to even work. Should I contact a regular physician to see if I have some other health issue going on?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Celebrex is a medication that is primarily used to relieve pain and inflammation. It is not approved for the treatment of depression, and there is no evidence that it is effective in treating this condition. While some people with depression may experience pain as a symptom, it is not clear whether Celebrex would be an appropriate treatment for this type of pain in people with depression.
If you are experiencing severe depression and have concerns about your medication regimen, it is important to speak with a healthcare provider. They can evaluate your symptoms, review your medical history and current medications, and make recommendations for appropriate treatment. Depending on your situation, they may refer you to a mental health specialist or adjust your medication regimen to better manage your symptoms.
It is also possible that your symptoms may be related to another underlying health condition, so it is important to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider to rule out any potential issues.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
