Is It Safe To Take Celexa For Depression Caused After Having An Hysterectomy?

I am 9 days post-op hysterectomy. Physical healing proceeding pretty well. But emotional roller coaster is awful.i am told my ovaries are in shock and adjusting to less blood supply. Fits of crying. Huge dips into sadness and feelings of regret for having surgery. I take 10mg. Of Celexa and am told going up to 15 for awhile would help. Any other ways to help ovaries get back to normal?Julie

Hello,

Please don't worry as the ovaries in most of the cases return to normal. You don't need to regret for having surgery as the operating surgeon would have weighed pros and cons of removing the uterus and the benefits of hysterectomy must have outweighed the disadvantages . Coming to depression, Celexa is a good drug and you can take it daily once at bedtime tab. Celexa 20 mg once daily at bedtime would help you fight depression.

If your depression and low moods are severe, you may have a counselling session with a clinical psychologist such that she can assess your condition and give you relevant advice. Daily meditation for 5 min at least would help. Muscle relaxation exercises as per the advice of your surgeon. So many people undergo hysterectomy for various reasons. As your ovaries are retained, you don't need to worry about side effects as there will be very minimal or nil.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
