Is It Safe To Take Cyclogest During Pregnancy?

Hello, I justfound out that I am 7 weeks pregnant today. My gyny doctor prescribed cyclogest pessary 400mg for 28days and he says that this is to prevent miscarriage since I have been diagnosed with PCOS. Is it safe to take cyclogest in pregnancy as all the online resources cinfurm it to be unsafe.

Cyclogest pessary contains progesterone which is used for restoring menstrual cycles in women whose periods have stopped due to a lack of natural progesterone hormone in the body. As it contains progesterone, a natural female hormone that is very vital to regulate ovulation and menstruation. It can be used to treat infertility and help increase the chance of a successful pregnancy, as progesterone can prepare the uterus for pregnancy.

You may be asked to continue taking this medication after becoming pregnant if you need extra progesterone to prevent miscarriage or pregnancy related complications. Though some studies have shown that Cyclogest pessary may increase the risk of congenital anomalies like genital abnormalities in both male and female infants, so it should be used during pregnancy according to your doctor's advice and supervision.
