Is It Safe To Take Ferrous Gluconate For Celiac Disease?

my recent blood test showed my iron to be at 14. I was told normal is from 10 --to--291 (a large window for people. my doctor prescribed 300 mg of ferrous gluconate and eat more green veggies etc. I am nearly 84 and was diagnosed in my 50.s with celiac disease. I had a second biopsy about 2 yrs ago - because I had a very bad bout of diarrhea-again confirmed celiac . Am I getting the correct treatment. Should I have a blood transfusion?

Hi

You do not require any blood transfusion since the levels are not very low.Ferrous gluconate tablet is sufficient to maintain normal levels and it is safe to take the drug.

These tablets should be taken after food to reduce any abdominal discomfort associated with the drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
