I suffer with chronic kidney desease. I take Prandin 2mgs. 3x a day, Losartan 50mgs. 2x a day. My sugar level has gone up and my Doctor wants me take Januvia 50mgs. 1x daily. Will the Januvia affect me negatively in any way? Especially my kidneys?

Hi,

As you are having chronic kidney disease, strict control of sugar and blood pressure is of utmost importance to avoid further progression of the disease.

Although not a definite contra-indication, Januvia (sitagliptin) can sometimes affect renal function and also, its elimination may be delayed in CKD. So even though this drug is commonly used in CKD patients, close monitoring of sugar control and renal function is important. Your doctor will guide you.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
