I take omeprazole (about 10 years now) for barrats oesophagus. About 3 years ago I started with psoriasis which is progressively worsening. I have read about impact ppis can have on mag and vit d absorption and their possible contribution to healthy skin. Should I be looking to come off the omeprazole or is the concern unfounded

Hello welcome to HCM

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor drug. The drug is commonly used antacid drug and is a safe drug if used in low doses and with proper prescription. The drug is known to hamper absorption of certain antibiotics but its role in psoriasis is conflictual. Some case reports suggest that the drug aggravate the conditions. Still to remain on safer side you can discuss with your doctor and can ask for some other antacid drug for Barett's Esophagus. Drugs like H2 blockers as Ranitidine can be used. The drug is safe to use in psoriasis and has almost same efficacy in Barett's Esophagus. Please call your doctor for prescription of this drug.

Thanks, Hope this helps. Take care
