Is It Safe To Take Otrivin Nasal Spray For Blocked Nose?
Hi Doctor, I am from India and here in October and November month winter season at its top. Temperature varies from 8 degree to 23 degree. In this two months, my one of a nasal got blocks, so sometime i use Othivin nasal spray. mostly I used to avoid, but if nasal blocks from long time at that time I will use it. Will it be OK, or shall I stop this. This issue is only for 2 months (Winter), rest 10 months everything will be fine. Is othivin is a drug/steroid? If i use year by year then is it making habit? Please Suggest.
Hi Welcome to healthcare magic. Otrivin does not contain steroid. It contains xylometazoline a decongestant constricts nasal vessels and leads to decrease in congestion. Longer use could cause damage to the nasal tissue and lead to chronic congestion. Yes i recommend you to stop using this. Yes you feel like using again and again and make this a habit but, at some point of time it will not give any relief infact make the block worse. So, consult your ENT doctor and find out why you are getting block. This couls deviation in the septum or polyps etc and get treated accordingly. Hope i have answered your question. If you have any further questions i am happy to help you. Wish you a good health.
