Is It Safe To Take Oxycodone Along With Diazepam And Tylenol For Arm Pain?

Thank you. I am 16 days out of total shoulder replacement surgery and am cutting back on oxycodone to about 2 tablets in a 24-hr. period however am taking 5 mg Diazepam and know I can mix these if necessary. However I occasionally in daytime take Tylenol 500 mg which dose can be taken only every 6 hrs. I have prescription from surgeon to continue oxycodone but want to get off of that asap. At this moment I have about another hour until Diazepam (6 hrs.) is up and arm is aching. Could I take the Tylenol (2) for 6 hrs.NOW or take another dose of Diazepam, or stick with the one oxybocone every 4-6 hrs. as prescribed. Confusing? It is for me too. (I am 82 yrs. old). Many thanks BarbCGolding

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would suggest you take a Tylenol now and see if that helps. Avoid repeating the Diazepam dose. If the pain doesn't improve with the Tylenol, you can take the Oxycodone 2 hours after the Tylenol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
