Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just started back up on 10 mg of paxil every night after getting off of it about 7 months ago. I orginally was perscriped the paxil for generalized anxiety. I noticed that the week that I have been on it that side effects are happening. These are things that I didn't think anything of when I first started the paxil a couple months ago but now are very noticeable. One new thing that happened today is I felt like I was going to faint and everyone's voices sounded distorted, this was at school in the hallway between periods. I felt like I was going to die. Not sure if I should continue on the paxil or not
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Paxil is Paroxetine and the drug belongs to SSRI group of drugs. The drug is safe to use and is a good anti anxiety and anti depressant drug. The drug when started in any individual results in increase in restlessness, anxiety, racing thoughts especially during first week of therapy. But in most of individuals these symptoms reduce spontaneously. The dose you are taking is very low I don't think paroxetine is causing these symptoms. Paroxetine is totally a safe drug, free of serious side effects. The symptoms like feelings that sounds are distorted, feelings of faintness etc are most likely occurring due to persisting anxiety symptoms. I'd advise you to wait for at least a couple of weeks to see the effects of Paroxetine. After passage of time the drug will control these symptoms and you will feel better. Consult your doctor if the symptoms increase in severity.
