Is It Safe To Take Rifaximin Long-term For Diverticulitis, As Prescribed For Over A Year?

Hello, I live in spain. My doctor (gastroenterologist) gave me Rifaximin (spiraxin 200mg) to treat diverticulitis. I have to take one tablet a day, without time limit (I have been on the treatment for a year now). I have heard that it is not indicated to take an antibiotic for a long period. So I wanted to know what you think about this practice and if it is safe to continue this treatment. Thank you
