Is It Safe To Take Allylesternol And Folic Acid Tablets During The Early Stages Of Pregnancy?
hi mam.iam 27 year old.got married last month .now i missed my periods and doctor said iam pregnant and prescribed allylesternol tablets with folic acid tablets.is it safe to take these tablets now.i mean too early just 3rd week of pregnancy.is there any side effects of these tablets.
The drug folic acid is an important vitamin whose deficiency leads to brain defects in children. Hence it is given to all pregnant women during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to prevent them.
Allylestrenol is a progesterone analogue. Progesterone is a hormone important to maintain pregnancy and prevent abortions. Its use is not advocated in fact not needed if there is no risk. It is used in women having symptoms of threatened abortion or in those that have had abortions and preterm labor earlier or have high risk pregnancies. Use in other women does not have no benefit and no harm. But it is being increasingly prescribed nowadays. Discuss it with your doctor if you need to take this drug.
