Is It Safe To Take Bactrim For Staph Infection On Face?

Hi - my 10 year old has a staph infection on his face (diagnosed by Urgent Care 2 days ago without labwork). He has been on Bactrim for 2 full days and it continues to get larger in size and has started itching. How long does it usually take to see the effects of the antibiotics?
