Is It Safe To Take Birth Control Pills In Conditions Of High BP?
Hi there, I am female,46 years old and tonight have been to see my GP about a recent scan I had. They have found my uterus to have fibroids, so are being referred to a gynaecologist. But in the meantime wants to put me on THE PILL! My blood pressure was taken at 138/84, my bmi is ok. Am concerned about taking the pill as I noticed my blood pressure seemed a lot higher than it used to be (bearing In mind it has been years since it was last taken, and was always 115/70) should I be concerned, as the Dr wasn t, because on researching it s saying my blood pressure result is pre-hypertension!
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Diagnosis of high blood pressure can not be made with a single reading, again 120/80 is supposed to be normal blood pressure. Yours is not much rise, it can be due to psychological stress . Any way, oral pills are to be given in blood pressure patient with due care/ only when essential. You are being referred to gynecologist, get your self examined,& let the specialist decide about pills. Any way, in case you have to wait for doctor's appointment, & if you are bleeding - you can safely start with the pills advised by your doctor. There is no risk in taking a single course. Thanks.
