Is It Safe To Take Birth Control When Periods Is About To Start?
Hi right now I m spotting which is a common sign of my period. I think it should come tomorrow but I would like to start taking my birth control hopefully tomorrow. Is that safe if my period would have actually come the day or 2 after? If I do start tomorrow and it s not the day it starts what would happen?
Hi there, I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.
If you are starting the birth control pills for the first time or after a gap of long period, then please start it on the second day of your actual period. Usually, combination oral contraceptive pills containing estrogens and progesterone hormone are used. Please regularly take the pill at the same time of the day for 21 days and keep 7 pill free days in between. And restart the next pill pack after 7 days gap. Please seek prescription support from your treating doctor for the same.
I will also suggest you to opt a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen and start with Folic acid and vitamin B 12 supplements on regular basis.
I hope this answer helps you. Thanks. Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
