Is It Safe To Take Break From Microgynon And Then Continue Again?

I have taken two packets of Microgynon 30 back to back. On the first day of the second packet I started bleeding lightly now and again and i have a brown discharge, this has continued for almost 2 weeks. Would it be ok for me to stop taking the pill, have a 7 day break and then start a new packet. Will I be protected against pregnancy during the 7 day break?
