Is It Safe To Take 'lisinopril' During Pregnancy?

I am about 5 weeks pregnant and taking lisinopril. I know there is alot of risk of having a baby with complications while taking this medication. I don't know if I should call a obgyn or abort the baby. I don't want to take the risk and not know of my childs health. What should I do and will a doctor abort the baby or tell me to carry it to term?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Lisinopril is a drug used to treat high blood pressure & is known to cause harm to the baby/ may lead to still birth / congenital anomolies in baby in 2nd or 3rd tri master of pregnancy.
( from 4th to 9th month of pregnancy.)so the drug is contraindicated in late pregnancy. In early pregnancy it is not advised so as to avoid any further complications.
You are in 5th week of pregnancy-you should consult a gynecologist ,get investigated to evaluate the risk & go for abortion .
You should consult your physician for change of drug that is safe in pregnancy & then plan for pregnancy in future.
Thanks.
