Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a cold couple of days ago. and now i am suffering from fever along with cough. i am taking the roxid-150 from past two days. but not the significant effect was found. should i move to another tab. like zocef-500
The cold is normally caused by a virus so that antibiotics do not have any effect. Viral infections would cause the fever and cough.
Rarely is there also a bacterial infection. The use of antibiotics in a viral infection increases the chance of a person developing antibiotic resistance, a condition called MRSA.
If you have the common cold then the use of only symptomatic treatment and avoidance of antibiotics would be best. This means (1)using paracetamol 1g every 4 to 6 hours to help the fever (2)rest if possible and increase the use of fluids (cool or cold) (3)use a over the counter cough suppressant to decrease the intensity of the cough- your pharmacist would give what is available (4) if the cough is wet, you can also obtain a mucolytic over the counter- these help to break up the mucus.
I hope this helps
