Is It Safe To Travel By Flight When Suffering From Cavity Under The Tooth Crown?

I have just learned that I have a cavity under a crown. It may require a root canal or possibly loose the tooth and require an implant as I have an actual hole where the crown ends and the gum starts. My question is that I have plans to fly internationally before I can get this addressed. Does the pressure of flying create any reaction in this situation? Second question: what is the recommended treatment in this situation?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if you have infection confined to a single tooth and if you are not symptomatic that means if you do not have any pain and swelling you are at a nominal risk of getting any discomfort in the flight..

But in case if there is pain in the tooth or has happened in the near future you can have some pain or the tooth can be comparitively more sensitive during flying due to pressure changes..

In case of extensive infection that has spread to more areas it can cause pain and discomfort during flight..

I would suggest you to take a 7 days course of antibiotics like Augmenting 625 mg thrice daily so that the infection will be reduced and will be minimal leading to less or no discomfort during flight..

You can carry a higher painkiller like Tramadol with you as a precautionary measure to take in case of pain during flight..

Hope this information helps..
