Hi Doctor,
I had active acne on my face which left marks.
Doctor gave me demelan and asked me to apply all over the face every alternate night.
I have been using this for over a week now and there are black and white patches on my face.
Is this normal as I am really worried about it
You probably seem to suffer from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Demelan cream contains glycolic acid 10% along with kojic acid 2% and arbutin. All of these are skin lightening agents useful for hyperpigmentation.
It can cause some irritation, specially at the start of therapy. You might be developing slight irritation to demelan, giving rise to patches. I would suggest that you discontinue with it for the time being if the irritation is bothersome . Rather you can begin with a kojic acid2% based cream (kojic cream ) which is non -irritating. I would suggest that you use this skin lightening cream along with a broad spectrum sunscreen gel throughout the day to prevent sun induced darkening.
You could also opt for glycolic acid peeling sessions from a dermatologist or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
regards
