General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. PCOD is a condition with ovulation problem & irregular periods. Duphaston is a hormone progesteron derivative which is used in early pregnancy to support pregnancy. But when given without pregnancy for few months as per doctor's advise- it acts to regulate irregular menses. * It is also given in PCOd for consecutive three months , to regulate menses & also with a hope of spontaneous correction of ovulation following the course. * It needs to be taken regularly at same time of day. Irregular taking may cause bleeding in between. * Overweight is a common feature of PCOd. You have to try for reduction. As you reduce, there are all the chances that your ovulation will start normally.( persistent diet control/ exercises/ metformin pills( Glyciphage) with your doctor's advise would help in reduction.) Thanks.
