Hi, I am 34 weeks pregnant and want to know if it is safe to use Utrogestan 100mg? My Gynie prescribed 1 in the morning and 2 at night untill i give birth. On the internet it states that it is NOT recommended for usage during pregnancy. What is your view?

Hello!
Thanks for your query.
Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby.
I dont know the reason that your gyn.have prescribed uterogestan but you should stop using that because you dont have benefits and Utrogestan Vaginal 200mg Capsules are not a treatment for premature labour. Prescription of progesterone beyond the first trimester of pregnancy may reveal gravidic cholestasis.
Take care of your self

OBGYN Dr. Shanti Vennam's  Response
Hi,
Please clarify with your gynecologist regarding the need for progesterone at this stage of pregnancy. Though it is given during early pregnancy for threatened abortion, it can be stopped after stability is attained. It is a micronized form. Progesterones are usually not advised during early pregnancy unless clearly indicated as they can cause masculinization in female fetuses. Vaginal applications are safer. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you safe motherhood.
