Is It To Be Concern About The Swelling And Itching In The Labia?

Hello I had a fungal infection ( groin area ) for which I was being treated. the itching was subsiding, when suddenly, 2 days back I started feeling itchy inside the labia area. I ignored it, and yesterday, the itching was severe. also the clitoris, and the labia are red, swollen and painful. Should I consult a GP, or a gynaec or go back to the same dermatologist ?

Hi there, I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all do not panic.

It can be extension of the nearby fungal infection in the groin area that has affected your external genitalia.
I will suggest you to seek prescription support from your treating Gynecologist.

You might require Antifungal agents like Fluconazole, 200 mg twice a week for 4 weeks, antihistamines like Cetrizine 10 mg once a day as needed and for local application ointment containing antibacterial and antifungal and mild steroid agents.
Use of vaginal suppositories containing Clotrimazole and Clindamycin for a week will be of help.

Take care of local hygiene.
Keep private parts clean and dry.
If you have tendency of sweating in the groin area use of Candid dusting powder will help to keep the area dry.
Use of Lactic acid containing vaginal wash during bath time is advisable.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
