Is It True That Type 2 Can Detect Hypothyroidism More Efficiently?

I just had a physical and asked the Dr. to have the lab check my T3 and T4 thyroid as well as the Hashimoto test. She did and said all was fine, but someone who had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism said there is a Type 2 test that is new and is able to detect hypothyroidism much better and more accurately than previous tests. Is that true?
