Is Itching A Sign Of Allergy?

I am having an extreme itch on my right side. It s one of those that you can t really find to rub to relieve the itch. I don t know if this is an allergy to my detergent or if it could be an onset to shingles. If anything touches that area, it s between an itch and a stabbing pain. It s really weird.
