Is Itching And Swelling Normal After Bee Sting When Immunity Is Low?

I am on chemotherapy (taxol) and have low WBC and was stung by a bee yesterday. I am not allergic to bees and was concerned. I called my nurse practioner (oncologist) and she said it would be fine- just sore for a few days and I could take benydryl if I wanted. I had iced it immediately. When I woke this morning, it was a bit over an inch and more swollen and itchy- no pain. I am surprised with low immunity that it would swell more than normal. Is this a normal reaction? I have no fever or other symptoms.

Hi..
welcome to healthcaremagic.com and myself Dr. Atishay Bukharia would be answering your questions..

itching and swelling it's quite normal after bee sting even when immunity is high because the bite causes release in histamine which is primarily responsible for itching and vasodilation mediated release of fluid into the tissue to cause swelling.

hope it helps
