Is Itching In The Rectum A Matter Of Concern?

ok, well this is embarrassing but my rectum seems to itch a lot. It is not a burning itch....just like an irritated itch. I bath daily so it is not like I am unclean. But it has been going on for awhile now and am alittle concerned if it could be serious.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having pruritus ani, my treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily.
2. Apply an antifungal plus steroid cream like candid-b cream twice daily on affected part.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine for itching. If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.
