Is Lack Of Concentration In A Child A Symptom Of ADHD?

My son is 8 yrs old, turning 9 in August...his teacher told me she thinks he needs to b tested for ADHD, bcuz he continuously disrupts her teaching, wont stay in his seat and rocks it back and forth and is just...basically, not interested in whats going on in class at times. He does those things at home as well, but is very capable of being still when told to be here at home, especially if put in time out. He is very smart, reads very well, he just has trouble focusing and concentrating on important things. Is it necessary to have him tested for ADHD?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related doubts

I can understand your concern. Continuous disruption in class, fighting with other kids, moving here and there from seat, lack of focus and concentration in class etc all points towards ADD and should be evaluated. Impulsivity, hyperactivity, poor concentration are cardinal features of ADHD. Please take his to a psychiatrist and get him evaluated for ADHD.

Thanks, Hope this helps you.

Take care
