Is Large Mass Of Ear Wax After Fever Or Cold Normal?

I have had a cold now for 3-4 days, but only ran a high temp for about a few hours in that time. Last night, I pulled out a large, dark red, clumpy mass of ear wax from my right ear. Now, this morning, the same from my left ear. It has the consistensy of play-doh (not liquidy at all). Again, the color was a DEEP dark redish brown. Is this normal?

Start wax dissolving ear drop for 5 days
