Is Lifting Heavy Things Advisable After A Hysterectomy?
Hi...Backstory: I am pleased to say that I experienced a very successful hysterectomy for prolapsed uterus 11 months ago with bladder lift. At this point in time, is it permissible to lift my 3 year old granddaughter on occasion? I do avoid other heavy lifting for fear of a prolapsed bladder, however, I cannot refuse lifting a baby. Please advise! Thank you, Kim
Actually after hysterectomy, after 2 weeks, you may lift a weight up to about 5-10 lbs up to 3-4 weeks. Gradually you can increase the limit taking care that, it does not hurt your core tissues. Generally, the recovery is complete by 12 weeks or so. After this time you can do your almost normal activities as before operation. Of course, the level of your activities is to be increased gradually taking in mind the presence of discomfort. As you had your operation 11 months ago, so I think that you may go with your normal activities including lifting your grand daughter, of course taking care of any discomfort, pain or pressure in the core tissue area.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
