Hallow Dear Mom,
Exclusive breast feeding - day and night - does give contraceptive protection by prohibiting the egg release in nursing mother for first 4-6 months of the breast feeding. This causes absence of
menstruation also. However, subsequently as the weaning food has been started to baby, the breast feeding does not remain exclusive and there is (?erratic) ovulation which increases the risk of
pregnancy. Also, the menstruation may start at this stage. However, in many cases pregnancy without menstruation is also noted. So you have started menstruating now.
Menstruation during breast feeding is never a symptom of pregnancy. In fact it denotes that you are not pregnant, the fact further endorsed by your two
pregnancy tests.
However, now, I would advise you to follow reliable method of
contraception like
oral contraceptive pills. Now that the baby has started receiving weaning food, oral contraceptive pills can safely be taken. Please ensure that your baby receives all adult meal on its first birthday.
Happy motherhood o you, Mom.
