Is Loss Of Memory And Motor Balance Due To Simvastatin?

I take simvastatin 40 mg nightly since my blood clot in heart 12/2014. I do have memory issues and occasional balance issues. Could be the cause? I have seen the neurologist. This was not discussed. I also have ringing in my ears but do not believe it is because of this medication.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think the symptoms you are experiencing are due to Simvastatin drug. The symptoms you are describing point towards a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's is a disease in which there is short term memory loss followed by cognitive and behavioral problems. It can be diagnosed by a neurologist.

It is a chronic degenerative disease which worsens over time. Early diagnosis is essential to manage the symptoms.

I would advise you to consult your neurologist as soon as possible and discuss your symptoms with him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma Amman
