Is Low Dosage Of Adderall Advisable During Pregnancy?

I am in my 23rd week of pregnancy and I am asking about adderall or other ADD medicine I can take. My job performance suffers severely without medicine, constant mistakes and forgetfulness. I am starting a new job that is a huge advancement for me and very important in starting a career and I want to do well, which with medication I know I can reach my full potential. I only ever took 10 mg once or twice a day as necessary for work. Baby is healthy so far, is a low dose of adderall OK?

Hi,

Adderall is amphetamine mixed Salts is used for treatment of ADHD. People with ADHD may have trouble controlling impulsive behaviors, paying attention or may feel overly restless or over active. Taking adderall in early pregnancy may be related to some child birth defects like gastroschisis, omphalocele, transverse limb deficiency. But, there is a very low risk of having a baby born with these birth anomalies after taking adderall, not more than 4%. Most women will need to discontinue their adderall which is recommended. But leaving ADHD untreated for 9months or more can also have long lasting effects for mother and child. For some women with ADHD, to continue taking their adderall is to keep them stable to live or maintain relationship and hold onto a job. If you are really impaired from untreated ADHD, it may be best to stay on the adderall at the lowest effective dose. It is recommended more frequent ultrasound during pregnancy, one every three weeks and one or two fetal echocardiogram to evaluate the decision to continue treatment with adderall.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
