Is Low Thyroid Level The Cause Of Having Pain And Swelling In Wrist?

I am having severe wrist swelling and pain. It started in my left wrist (I am left handed) and then moved as well to the right. Dr.s have ruled out arthritis and gout. I am wondering if my low thyroid may be causing this painful condition? It has been going on for 3 plus weeks. I have been on thyroid meds for a few years but need to keep increasing my dosage. I was low at the last blood draw.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what you are experiencing. Please, thyroid medications have not been known to causes such symptoms. The wrist swelling could be caused by different conditions like reactional arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. It would be a good idea to meet and discuss with a rheumatologist if the symptoms persist or become even worse. For now, take some pain medications like ibuprofen and Tylenol alongside resting the joints and applying cold packs.

I hope you find this helpful and it addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health.
