Is Lyme Causing Headaches, Ear Pain And Lack Of Energy?

Hi, I have a question about my 14 year old daughter. She is a competitive swimmer. About 2 weeks ago, just before leaving for her national meet that she had trained intensely for, she developed a fever of 101 for a few days, headaches, tiredness. Now, she is at another championship meet this week and is struggling again, headaches, ear pain and lack of energy ( not swimming even close to her expected level). I m not with her, so we don t know if she has a fever. We also live in an area with high rates of lyme. Do you think I should take her for a mono test and/or a lyme test if her symptoms persist? No sore throat so far.

Hello!
I read your question and understood your concern.
In my opinion it may be an infection. It may be a viral infection or any other infection taken in the swimming pool. But we can't exclude a Borrelia infection, which may cause similar flu like symptoms in the first stages.
I would recommend a blood analysis for infection and a good physical examination. A lyme test would be helpful too in this situation, because of the high risk for this infection in your region.
Hope to have been of help!
Greetings!
Dr. Aida
