My husband had a mild stroke in Dec 2012 and is also a functioning alcoholic who drinks very little water. For his type 2 diabetes his doctor has prescribed 500mg of Metformin. Is this risky? I have a call in to our Doctor s office and should hear back from them on Monday. If I am not satisfied, I will try your site again and pay then. Thankyou.

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Divakara's Response
HI Thanks for posting your query . If his kidney function is good then Metformin is a safe drug even if he drinks little water .
But advise him to drink more water .
If you don't know about his kidney function status get Serum Creatinine , Blood urea tests done and let me know the report .
But if his kidney function is compromised then better change some other medicines like DPP4 inhibitor or Insulin .
Kindly revert back--- Dr.Divakara.P
