Microdermabrasion is specifically meant for improving
acne scars.
It is also meant for enhancing facial skin, specifically for dullness, tanning etc, therefore you may opt for it if you feel that your skin is getting darker. However, it is not a specific treatment for active acne.
Along with microdermabrasion sessions you may take appropriate treatment simultaneously for acne as well.
Since you have a long standing acne concern therefore it important that you continue with a maintenance topical retinoid gel even when there is no acne activity.
Retinoids are comedolytic and prevent new acne formation.
You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling with or without dermabrasion, from your treating
dermatologist.
Chemical peels have multiple advantages like oil control, acne control, pigment reduction and antiageing.
I would suggest that you talk to your dermatologist in more details about chemical peels as well as dermabrasion. Your dermatologist will be better able to assess your concern and advice accordingly
