Is Mild Degree Of Mitral Valve Prolapse A Cause For Concern?

Hi I was told I had a mitral valve prolapse with a murmur by various doctors using stethoscope after being plagued by awful symptoms for years. I m 30 year old female. I recently went for an echo and was told there is a slight leak but nothing of significance and no prolapse which has left me feeling more convenient fused. How can they hear it but not see it and I m convinced this is the reason for my symptoms

Hello,

Cardiac murmur during stethoscope examination is not a marker of mitral valve prolapse. There are many reasons for murmur including anemia and hyperdynamic circulation as well.

Echocardiography can be considered conclusive to rule out mitral valve prolapse or other valvular condition. So you can rely on echocardiography report.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
