Is Mirena The Only Solution For Extremely Long Period?

I have been suffering from extremely long periods over the past 3/4 of year. The gyn I went and saw said my only solution is to use a mirena. I have extreme fears in regards to this as I became suicidal and had cysts from various dift birth control hormonal methods. He said I am to young for anything else. I am 36. Do you have any thoughts? Thanks.
