Is Muffled Hearing Due To Permanent Damage In Ears?

4 days ago, one of my friends decided to twist a water bottle and pop the lid off right near my ear, ever since i noticed the ear that was exposed to the pop (left) feels muffled, I am still able to hear, however it sounds quieter like its stuffed, after a few days i started to get worried and was wondering if this caused any pernament damage that would affect me in the future.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have muffled hearing in ears. Well there can be many reasons for blocked or heaviness in ears like :-

- Eustachian tube blockage or dysfunction .

- Ear infection ( otitis media ) .

- Endolymphatic hydrops .

Need not to worry. I wold suggest you to consult ENT specialist or otolaryngologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may examine ear with an instrument known as otoscope and also order other test to confirm the diagnosis and treatment. You should try to keep your ear dry and give hot and dry compresses to external ear . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and expectorants .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
