Is My Father S Left Arm Pain And Numbness After Cervical Spine Surgery Due To Nerve Issues?

My father has just had cervical spine surgery a week ago but he still has a lot of pain around the left shoulder blade and numbness in his left arm (he can move his fingers and wrist but he cant lift his arm) Is this a nerve issue and will it get better?
