hello doctor, I don t know whether my question is right for you but my blood test has shown the liver funtion as: SGPT (AST) 68 H ALT 152 H Alkaline Phos. 139 H Total Bili. 1.6 H Direct Bili. 0.4 H Doctor, I would like to know what is this disease called. thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of liver function tests is as follows: Elevated level of liver enzymes SGOT and SGPT are due to damage to the hepatocytes or liver cells. Normal level for SGOT and SGPT is 0-40 IU/L. The levels of both the enzymes is marginally raised. This is commonly due to viral infections. The level of alkaline phosphatase is within normal range thus it suggests that there is no abnormality in the biliary tract. Total bilirubin is marginally raised. Its level should be below 1 mg/dl however its level is slightly higher than normal. The level of direct bilirubin is within range. This implies that indirect bilirubin is slightly raised. Thus, further a liver ultrasound is suggested to look at the structure of liver and biliary tract.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
